The number of residential buildings okayed for construction last year rose to 5,780 from 3,000 in '03. The buildings have a combined built-up area of 3 mln sq m and a total of 21,271 residential units. The size of most new homes is 50-70 sq m. The building permits for hotels, factories, workshops, entertainment and sporting venues totalled 6,746 in '04 for a combined built-up area of 2.722 mln sq m. A total of 360 administrative buildings were approved for construction last year.
